Managed services
Our network is built to handle the most quality sensitive of traffic – voice and video. It is 100% owned and operated by Simwood, based in two distinct data centres for redundancy, and is a perfect platform for high quality services. These are generally used by customers wishing to have a presence closer to our equipment, or to benefit from our highly relevant peering agreements. However, they are also used by direct Enterprises or resold into Enterprises by our customers.
Imagine if all your data centres and offices were together in the same building, bringing ultra high-speed connectivity to the office and massive simplification of the connection to the data centre. You might use VLANs to enforce QoS or you might leverage high bandwidth services without worrying about VPNs or routing between sites. Replication of databases etc. would become quicker and simpler as they’d all be together on the same network. Well, that is a reality you can offer your UK customers today, or exploit yourself, through Simwood Carrier Ethernet.
Simwood operates a large vSphere 4 cluster with multiple high performance SANs. It hosts many of our non-media services (including this web server) as well as numerous customer applications. For the ultimate combination of flexibility, availability and performance we recommend virtualised servers over physical for most applications that don’t involve media. We offer hosting from a single VM but have virtualised complete data centres for customers.
We can offer rack space from single Us upwards in either of our data centres, coupled with one or more Gigabit connections to our network. This is used by customers wishing to have their own equipment as close as possible to ours or benefit from our voice-optimised network. Co-location can also work hand-in-hand with the above two services, with for example, Carrier Ethernet circuits terminating on customer’s own equipment, or customer networks encompassing a mix of co-located and virtualised equipment.
