IP Transit
Simwood Global IP Transit provides a fast, burstable, connection to the Global Internet from any one of our UK sites (or beyond via Carrier Ethernet) via our premium multi-homed network, AS42353.
This service will connect your network to the rest of the Internet via the Simwood high speed backbone. Global IP Transit can be delivered using either static assignments or dynamically using the BGPv4 protocol if you have an Autonomous System Number (ASN) of your own.
Approximately 80% of the traffic presently on the Simwood network flows directly to peers or over a single partial-transit network for minimum latency and optimal throughput. What cannot be routed in this way is passed to quality global transit providers such as TiNet and HE.net but we continually monitor flows by destination network and are always extending our peering relationships where possible.
Simwood PoPs are fully routed not merely remote switches to access customers. Our backbone is MPLS running on Brocade (formerly Foundry) NetIron equipment. The combination ensures that your traffic will always take the optimal path across the Simwood network and that path will self-heal in the event of a link outage. This extends to our own transit purchases and peering in that we are not dependent on London for onward connectivity to other networks and out of the UK.
The Simwood network also offers solid IPv6 support using a Brocade dual-stack. The network is 100% IPv6 enabled and transit products can be offered in native IPv6, or more commonly native IPv4 or dual-stack IPv4 and IPv6.
All transit products can enjoy the protection of our DDoS Security solution.

BGP Delivery
When using BGP your routers will be sent a full Internet routing table (a default route may also be originated if required) and your announced address space will be announced to all peers and upstream providers. We support an extensive set of community strings to distinguish the origin of routes we send to you and enable your own route selection.
Static Delivery
With a statically routed connection we handle all routing out to the Internet. This service is perfect for those that do not wish to manage their own routers. This product works excellently with our co-location/virtualistion or to provide Internet connectivity to customer sites via our Carrier Ethernet.
For IP addresses we are able to provide an assignment of our own RIPE allocations. RIPE services are also available through our LIR (uk.simwood) including PI and ASN registration. There are no limits to the number of IP addresses available, subject to justification as per RIPE guidelines.
Whilst all static connections are terminated on a pair of devices, multiple physical hand-offs are optionally available for redundancy against equipment failure.
