Numbering
We offer both non-geographic (0800 etc.) UK numbers and ‘real’ phone numbers (DDI / DIDs) throughout the UK. Calls are delivered onto our network from our partner carrier interconnects and then routed as you prefer. This can be to any VoIP (SIP) destination or PSTN number worldwide (which can be changed on-demand), or on-network services such as our fax service.
Our pricing models are simple ranging from no charge at all for non-geographic numbers through to pricing based on usage for geographic numbering. We levy no charge for channels or capacity on UK numbering, and any channel limits on your account are purely for the protection of other customers not a commercial restriction; they can be increased as required where feasible. There are no limits per individual number so you won’t find yourself having to change supplier if your service or a particular customer is a hit.
We use our own world-class network to deliver traffic to your equipment, with one of the widest ranges of codecs available and your own codec preferences respected. We were the first UK wholesale network to offer HD Voice on our numbering, enabling other IP originated calls from partner networks, or on-net between Simwood customers to enjoy better than PSTN quality.
Number ranges available from Simwood include:
- UK geographic numbers (a.k.a. DDI / DID). Complete countrywide coverage.
- UK 056 numbers. Designated by OFCOM specifically for new voice services such as VoIP.
- UK 0800/0808 Freephone numbers. Free to call from most networks with the receiving network paying for the call.
- UK 0844 numbers – revenue generating numbers with acceptable call charges (1p-5p per minute) for end users. Perfect for number translation services.
- UK 0845 numbers. Designated ‘local rate’ by OFCOM and used as business contact numbers.
- International DDIs in many cities globally.
In every number range we offer ‘gold’ (a.k.a. vanity) numbers for use in marketing or advertising or for image conscious end users. Technically and financially they are identical to ordinary numbers save for a one-off up-front charge which varies according to the specific number sequences.
Numbering can be instantly searched, allocated, and configured via our industry leading API. A number of customers use this to enable on-line number selection and purchase to their customers, enabling them to search for specific sequences with gold numbers optionally included.
Whilst SIP interconnects over the public Internet benefit from our excellent network, high volume customers may wish to consider connecting privately. We offer solutions ranging from co-location, static access with IP addressing (for customers with their own equipment but not operating their own network) and Carrier Ethernet through to peering over BGP for ISP customers.
